BUILDING
COMMUNITY

JULY 9TH 2022
BIRMINGHAM

PUT YOUR SCHOOL AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY IT SERVES.

ABOUT

One thing the pandemic has shown us, is that schools are the heart of the communities that they serve. Throughout the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, schools stepped up to support children and families. They fed them, taught them in school and online, and kept them safe when everyone else was struggling.

Despite the lack of support from the DfE and the government, schools did an amazing job. You did an amazing job. You were the beating heart that kept your community alive.

Community is a powerful word and it has long been at the heart of education too. The purpose of education in 1944 was to:

"contribute towards the spiritual, moral, mental, and physical development of the community by securing that efficient education... ...to meet the needs of the population of their area."

Education Act, 1944

A school’s purpose was to meet the community’s needs.

For many the purpose appears to have changed. Too often, in modern schools, the community is kept at arms length, kept beyond the school gate. There is a disconnect between school and the community it serves that stops both functioning as well as they might.

Connection, communication, and collaboration are key to developing agile and responsive schools that support the needs of their communities, allow communities to support them, and build a better future for us all.

This conference will help you to build those connections, give you opportunities to communicate and collaborate, and continue to put your community at the heart of your school.

We have some fantastic speakers, and will provide some excellent opportunities for connecting with your peers. This is not a conference where you will be spoken at, but one where we value your experience and your voice. Be prepared to be engaged with.

Education Roundtables

Education Roundtables is a community of headteachers and schools, connected via regular online discussions, professional development opportunities and shared expertise. Members regularly collaborate to create positive change for all of their community’s members.

LetsLocalise

LetsLocalise, founded in Berkshire in Nov 2018 is a Digital Social Innovation that aims to tap into unused reservoir of community goodwill to empower educators across the country.
